Thank you to Joie Schmidt who so kindly allowed me to read Dreams of the Heart, vol. I for free in exchange for an honest review. Who should read this? This book is full of beauty that reflects humanity in many ways. If you're looking for poetry that offers familiarity and relatability, there is something in this book for you. This book is very spiritual in the connection between the writer and God. If you feel that you, too, share this connection, you will find that your thoughts regarding God and His gifts of creation, beauty, protection, and more are beautifully expressed in Schmidt's poetic writing. If you long to read about the passion that you have only experienced between you and your partner, the love poems in this book will make you feel understood and connected to others who have felt such love, too. There is room for the heartbroken, too, as Schmidt dives into the feelings experienced by longing, distance, and dissolving relationships. If you simply enjoy reading about nature's beauty, life's rare moments, relationships, or insight into humanity, this book has something for you! Overall review rating: 4/5 Feel free to check out Schmidt's other books:

* I read this book as an eBook, so if my counting is off or I have missed any titles in my calculations, I am sincerely sorry. ReviewThis book certainly offers an extensive variety of poems to satisfy readers with different needs. I started to read this book of poetry without considering what I may be seeking to receive from Schmidt's words. However, I found that I could relate to various poems in each section of her book.
I do not typically read religious pieces, but I did find that the "Inspirational" section, which seems to have a focus on spirituality as well various other poems throughout the book, to be uplifting. Whether I relate to these poems on a small or deep level, I find that the beauty emanating from the lines offer more of than a basic reading. I read deeper to find meaning that applied more to my own life and felt a connection to Schmidt's words. This uplifting feeling is one that persists throughout each section of poetry. I felt that the "Romantic" section offered a number of poems that made me feel happy and in love, remembering moments in my own life that were described in various poems within the section. I also read about love in ways I have yet to experience but hope to in my future. "For the Broken Hearted" was a section with which I also connected. I found that there were elements of sadness, doubt, and pain that can be felt in the dissolving of a relationship or fizzling romance. It did not make me relive the pain, but rather feel lighter because I know others have felt similarly. The remaining three sections offer treats of their own. I found that I could see parts of humanity as though it was under the lens of a microscope--moments that tend to pass quickly before my eyes were there before me to analyze and interpret through Schmidt's poetic lines. I found beauty in day to day situations, such as a Summer's day like today. I found confusion in facing conflicts that arise in our day-to-day lives. Most of all, I felt an understanding of humanity. I feel that I found poems that related to my life and those that I could not personally relate to helped me understand the world and the lives of the other people who live in. Overall, it was a nice, uplifting read. Various poems I enjoyed include:
